Project Proposal

Women and Peace in Liberia
Group Proposal
Marilyn Hiliau & Jennifer Veres-Schrecengost
April 25, 2010

Our project will examine the recent history and situation of violence in Liberia and the work that has been done by women there to fight for peace. Many in the class are more familiar with Liberia’s history and struggle after watching the film, “Pray the Devil Back to Hell”, but we want to pick up additional threads of the history that the film may not have fully developed and also bring in a more updated report on the current state of peace and the position of women.

Jennifer’s lens will be the influences and role of religion, specifically focusing on the resources that women have access to through religious communities and how those communities provide an operative base for women waging peace.

Marilyn will be focusing on justice and governance and you’ll have to stay tuned to hear more about that.

We’re planning to present most of our findings through a PowerPoint presentation; however we are also hoping to incorporate other media, including the possibility of a Web site.

If either of us can clarify this more before we present, or if there is a particular aspect of these lenses on Liberia that you are interested to know more about, please comment! Cheers!
